On West Virginia Route 39, just east of Huntersville, Pocahontas County. From Marlinton traveling east, look for large farm pond and field on right. Spring is on left directly across from pond. Wonderful spring, great water. Water comes from steel pipe. There are flat rocks in front of spring so you can fill containers easily on the ground. Water is very clean-tasting, no real off-flavors to it.
Spring is privately (and very well) maintained and used by the public. There is a nice, large spot for pulling off the road. The Devil’s Backbone rock formation (visible from road) is just a couple hundred yards from here, look to your right as soon as you cross the next bridge (traveling east). If you are traveling west (from Virginia) the Devil’s Backbone will be your landmark to start looking for the spring.
